I would rather be optimistic and be wrong than be pessimistic and be right
It is essential to understand that lasting motivation comes from within; it is intrinsic. External factors motivate us, get a prize, get a promotion, avoid punishment; But those external stimuli may not arrive, or they may not be as great as we expect.
The only thing that can keep us permanently motivated is the attitude of being better every day, learning something new, doing something good for someone, and improving the products in which we participate. There is no other proper standard than the one we set for ourselves.
This is related to optimism, which is the mindset that keeps us moving. Understanding that not everything is as we want and that there are many problems, optimism allows us to focus on opportunities and not obstacles. My wife, Filo, is not that she is negative, but that she likes to keep in mind all the possible ways in which something may not go well, that is why I like to call her “worst-case scenario Filo”; She says that I am an optimist without a cure.
The truth is that I would rather be optimistic and be wrong than be pessimistic and be right.
